Mental Health Awareness Week with ABFE

Mental Health Awareness Week with ABFE

Taking place between the 15th and 21st of May 2023, Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual opportunity to educate and raise awareness of the importance of our mental health, to cultivate compassion and highlight the stressors that can play a role in mental health conditions.

Here at Australian Bush Flower Essences, we’re on hand to explore those common factors that can compromise mental wellbeing and the practices and natural remedies that can help you.

What is Mental Health Awareness Week?

Founded to increase public awareness of causes and cures, Mental Health Awareness Week works to break the stigma surrounding mental health. It encourages individuals to practise self-awareness and focus on achieving good mental health, and help prevent mental states from compromising other aspects of their life.

This year, the theme of Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘anxiety’. Charities will be working to explore how anxiety relates to other mental health conditions, its effect on our mental wellbeing, and which external factors can trigger anxiety.

Best Practices For Maintaining Mental Health

Experiencing a change in your mental wellbeing can be incredibly challenging; furthermore, it can begin to impact your physical state. Consequences of poor mental health include headaches, migraines, insomnia, digestive issues, muscle tension, soreness and more. The following suggestions are the best practices for maintaining your mental health:

Talk To Family and Friends: A problem shared is a problem halved. Talking to those who care about you and have your best interests at heart can put to bed anything that may be compromising your mental state.

Exercising: Whilst incredibly beneficial to your physical health, exercising also works wonders on your mental wellbeing. Breaking a sweat releases endorphins that help us feel good, releases detrimental emotions, improves body image and promotes a sense of achievement.

Taking Time For Yourself: From venturing on a long walk to practising meditation or yoga, ‘self-care’ is unique to every individual and can vary significantly! Whatever your chosen pastime, taking time for yourself allows you to switch off, reflect, and relax.

Keep Organised: Writing can be incredibly therapeutic, and writing regularly can be a great way to unwind. Whether you are keeping a diary or record of personal goals or a ‘to-do list’, writing out responsibilities, reflections and thoughts can help you to be organised - ultimately reducing any overwhelming feelings of anxiety that come as a consequence of disorganisation and bottling everything up in your head.

ABFE Remedies

There are many other Bush essences that can help support you through periods of stress and anxiety:

Dog Rose: a good remedy for shyness, anxiety, fear or phobias.

Dog Rose of the Wild Forces: for emotions that are in danger of going out of control in highly emotive situations.

Grey Spider Flower: for phobias, nightmares, extreme fear or terror; brings about courage, calmness, faith.

Red Grevillea: feeling stuck and not seeing any way out from your current situation, which is leading you to be progressively more negative.

Boost Essence: Promotes emotional resilience with calm and balanced energy and releases feelings of overwhelm caused by change.  Helps you to open up to feelings of safety and reassurance.

Finally, Mental Health Awareness Week is an incredible opportunity to learn more about the traits and behaviours that can distinguish mental health struggles so you can recognise them in others, and – if relevant– also within yourself. This week enriches everyone with the means to improve their mental wellbeing and their lives in general.
